How to provide your Windows device serial number

16 views 0 January 27, 2025 Updated on April 27, 2026 Websetgo Administrator

We will often ask you for the serial number and configuration of your Windows computer. Windows has made this simple to find and collect.

Serial number:

You can find the serial number in three places: on the outer case, the original box, and in Windows settings.

  1. Follow the instructions below for sending up the “simple details” containing the serial number.
  2. Send us a photograph of the outer computer case showing the serial number label or panel. This avoids errors retyping the serial number.
  3. We prefer not to use the original box because someone might mix them up.

Simple details (Windows Settings):

  1. Right mouse click on the blue Windows icon in the taskbar.
  2. From the results above, select “Settings” to open the Windows Settings application.
  3. Navigate to System > About.
  4. Find the “Device specifications” and to the right use the “copy” button and then paste this into an email.
  5. Find the “Windows specifications” and to the right use the “copy” button and then paste this into an email.
  6. (Option) Find the “Support” and to the right use the “copy” button and then paste this into an email.
  7. Send the email to your support technician.

Advanced information (System Information):

  1. Locate the search area in the Windows taskbar at the bottom of your screen.
  2. Type “System Information” into the search area.
  3. Select the System Information application from the results to open.
  4. Select the File menu and then select Export.
  5. Name the document (with your first and last name and the date)
  6. Save the document in your Downloads folder.
  7. Attach the document to an email to your support technician.
  8. Delete the document.

Your serial number should be observed within this collected information. Custom-built workstations, there is often no serial number. Never change the computer names of these devices.
