How can I add a new Authenticator to Microsoft 365?

You may need to add or delete an authentication methods for you Microsoft 365 account.

When changing phones, do not delete any authentication methods and do not delete the original Authenticator until your new phone and Authenticator is functioning. This procedure does not migrate authentication methods you added for other website applications. This only applies to accessing Microsoft 365.

You will need your active Authenticator or previously have setup alternative authentication methods to access your Microsoft 365 account. Contact your administrator if you deleted everything or never added alternative methods.

Step1: Using your laptop or desktop computer, access your Microsoft account: https://myaccount.microsoft.com/

Step 2: Navigate to the security settings: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info

Step 3: Add a new authentication methods using the link shown by the green arrow. You will be guided on screen to add you new authentication method.

Step 4: Ensure your default authentication method is not being deleted. Change it using the link shown by the purple arrow. We suggest using text (phone) as default.

Step 5: Delete any authentication methods by using the link indicated by the red arrow. Default methods cannot be deleted. See step 3.
