Virtual servers can be purchased with or without server management. Once running, virtual servers purchased without management attract no support beyond rebooting the instance. This may sound harsh but unmanaged servers are offered with the assumption that clients have a qualified (LAMP) server adminstrators and network engineers on staff. This should be carefully considered before attempting to run your own server with limited experience.
Monthly server management is provided to cover expected and regular webserver (LAMP) maintenance. This is limited to software installs, upgrades, server backups, server restoration, server monitoring, antivirus monitoring, firewall maintenance, network maintenance, user administration, and reporting. They two keys to understanding the inclusions are the words regular and expected. The monthly fee has been calculated to include only foreseen issues and anything unforeseen is viewed as the client’s responsibility.
Primarily the virtual server instance is considered as owned and operated by the client. Unexpected faults and issues from use or misuse are always considered the client’s responsibility and not covered by the monthly fixed server management. We are always here to help but our standard hourly rates apply, and overtime may apply to repairs attended outside of business hours.
Monthly server management naturally does not extend or include any work on the hosted website(s) even when they may have been impacted by the server maintenance.
Server management consists of a local technician’s time which is considerably more than the bare machine costs. Management will depend on the level of service required by the client, size and complexity of the server.
