Hosting Domain Settings

Our preference is to use CNAME (flattening) for the apex (‘@’) domain. Using a CNAME instead of A-Records allows our teams to change infrastructure with less impact on customers.

Many DNS services offer CNAME flattening support, meaning your apex domain (non-www) can be pointed using a CNAME record instead of an A-Record. Not all DNS hosts support CNAME flattened DNS records. Be sure to verify with your DNS host before making any changes.

Provided you DNS services supporting flattening, when requested, remove the A-Records and/or CNAME relating to the website. Add a CNAME record for the apex domain (‘@’) pointing to wp.wpenginepowered.com .Create a second CNAME record for ‘www’ pointing to the apex. See the example below:

CNAME Flattened domain settings

Default CNAME Flattened (Recommended): wp.wpenginepowered.com (will be supplied by email)

If the website lives on a subdomain, such as shop.ausgirlschoir.com.au, only one CNAME record is required to point DNS. The apex domain does not need to be CNAME flattened in this case. The is also no record needed for www.shop.ausgirlschoir.com.au.

If CNAME flattening is not available:

When pointing DNS using traditional A-records, two IP addresses are provided. Two separate A-records each using one IP address must be created for the apex domain (i.e. non-www). Dual A-records are not required for pointing the subdomain (including www.). All subdomains should be pointed using a CNAME record.

When requested, remove the A-Records and/or CNAME relating to the website. Add a A-record for the apex domain (‘@’) pointing to 141.193.213.10. Add a second A- record for the apex domain (‘@’) pointing to 141.193.213.11. Create a CNAME record for ‘www’ pointing to the apex. See the example below:

A-Record alternative domain settings

Default A-Record alternative: 141.193.213.10 and 141.193.213.11 (will be supplied by email)

Although unusual, some older DNS services do not allow dual IP addresses. If the domain is unable to be pointed using dual A-records, and a single IP is needed, please let me know.

Please disable all proxy, cache and CDN features until we have installed SSL certificates and tested all the websites.
